they-are-missing-the-point

They are missing the point!

New research recently published says that there is “No evidence that organic food is better than food grown with the use of pesticides and chemicals”.  Of course I have a few problems with a study like this.  First of all, for the purpose of this research paper, “better”, refers to the retention of minerals and trace elements.  Meaning, you get and retain the same amount of minerals and trace elements from organic and non-organic foods.  So What!!!  The end of the article has a quote basically saying that organic foods is simply a lifestyle choice for those who can afford it, implying that they are not doing it for health reasons, because the research clearly shows no benefit.

My two cents:  When i eat organic foods, do i do so because i get more nutrients?  Nope.  I am not dulisional enough to think that i get all the necessary nutrients in a day from my food in the first place (sorry anti-supplement people).  Do I eat organic food because it is a lifestyle choice and i like to drop the fact that i eat organic foods in every conversation that i can to come across as “health conscious”?  Nope.  So why do i eat organic foods in the first place?  Long term effects.  Did the above article even mention the long term problems associated with eating foods with chemicals and pesticides?  Of course not.  Does common sense dictate that foods grown without the use of chemicals will be safer in the long run?  I would think so.

So, what do we do with an article like this?  Nothing.  Unless you ate organic thinking you get more nutrients from it and could care less about possible cancers associated with chemicals.  Then you should switch back to chemically grown foods.
